Letter from the Editor

We are living in unprecedented times. As of this writing, Covid-19 has reached nearly every country on the planet and has brought along with it widespread sickness and suffering, restrictions and closures, and a heavy dose of fear and uncertainty. With phrases like social distance, stay-at-home, and shelter-in-place now a common part of our conversations, we’ve never been more separated from each other. Literally. But at the same time, it’s good to be reminded that we are in this together. That’s what this series is all about. The format is a little different then my typical feature story or devotional thought, but the mission is consistent: Project Surplus is an online space to proclaim and tell the wonders of God and the stories of His people. Some people featured believe in the Jesus I serve. Some do not. And others aren’t quite sure. I pray you find hope here. And some sweet reminders that you are not alone.

A few details to keep in mind. I shifted from author to editor for this series. That means that although I provided the questions, each person’s honest answers are published as is, with a bit of light editing on my part for brevity, grammar, and sentence structure. In a few instances, I exercised the right to omit any statements that drifted too far away from the stated question (whether or not I agreed with the position). As such, the views represented are the individual author’s, and not my own. When personal photos were submitted, they were included. The majority of the cover photos are stock images used for illustrative purposes.

Thanks for taking the time to read! At some point, I will post and share the answers to my own questions. I have a lot swirling around up here. Until then I’m praying, staying socially distanced, and working to provide a platform for all of our stories.

Love,

Ally (Creator of Project Surplus)
